I wanted this Alea Iacta Est film to feel like a Saturday-morning cartoon in its pacing and visuals, while taking inspiration from sakuga and anime for the character design and movements.

I wanted to be sure the snowy environment did not feel dull in comparison to the cast; rather than black and white, I used teals, greens, and light beiges to keep the world vibrant. The other location, the adventurer guild where the film begins, has the most 70s medieval influence with colorful rugs, rounded furniture, beaded curtains, as well as the older stone arches, and candled light. 

‘Melt in the Sun’ is the soundtrack for the film, made by the duo Small Fools. It was important to me to have a great song to work from pace-wise so the fight felt natural and energetic, and the medieval-style instrumentation with modern flair worked well with the visuals of Alea Iacta Est. I felt professional acquiring the music license from the two; being able to pitch them my project, my budget, and my idea was a great way to start pre-production and give me the confidence boost I needed at the beginning of the process.
